Why I Love My Job

Every once in a while a piece of furniture comes along that reminds me why I love my job refinishing vintage and antique furniture.

Maybe the furniture gods bestow me with a memorable piece just when I need it the most.  It's like they know I'm fed up with a chronic skin irritation on my hands that several dermatologists still can't determine the irritant. I'll spare you the picture. (You're welcome.)

Or, that I'm feeling dejected because an a$$hole picks apart my work on a desk, grinds the price down, and then puts it in his $50,000 BMV. (Really wish I could show you that picture.)

Heck, it was probably a combination of both of these things when this lovely vintage dresser came into my life.

It definitely put things in perspective and reminded me why I love my job. A piece like this doesn't come around too often and deserves a proper and attentive restoration.

I mean, really, don't you just love those gorgeous serpentine drawers!

I painted it in one of my favorite color combinations of gray and white with the original hardware refinished in silver. I used General Finishes Seagull Gray and Snow White. And, with all of my pieces (especially dresser and buffet tops) they are clear coated with a polyacrylic clear sealer for sheen and durability.

It's available to go to a new home!

And coordinates with other pieces of my holiday collection....

So that's my little explanation as to why I love my job. It's such a joy to refinish quality furniture that was produced in the good 'ol USA. I love giving my furniture another life to be used for another generation.

As for me, I'm taking a little time off to enjoy with my kids and get ready for Christmas. Here's hoping you and your family have a wonderful holiday season!

Merry Christmas!

  1. Hello!!!...again.....First off, thank for your lovely comments on my last comment. I said those complements
to you because YOU deserved them!!!!
As far as the buyer, I would of said, "Oh, I guess you really don't want this..so..don't buy it, somebody else will.".....and they will.
As far as your hands, I too!!! had a weird rash/irritation that MD's could not figure out...3 years!!! I tried just about EVERYTHING. Prescription and OTC. Then quite by accident I was at a friends house, used the rest room and washed my red/raw hands. After using her soap they just started to feel better. Then they started to look better after an hour!!! She had, "Dr. Bronner's 18-in-1 Hemp Almond PURE-CASTILE Soap"
in the dispenser. She said it was a miracle soap for everything!!! You can get it at Target, Trader Joe's, Bed, Bath and Beyond. After 2 days I NO longer have ANY sign of irritation!!!! GONE!!!!! after 3 years of struggle.
PERFECT!!!! Then I also use Dead Sea Mineral hand lotion/cream. The best ones contain aloe and avocado oil. I get that on Ebay from Israel or Jordan. The lotion, I was using before I found the soap and it seemed to be the ONLY thing to give a slight bit of relief. Now, the two together are WOW!!!!!! Try it all...who knows???? Good Luck to you.
Hope you have a Merry Christmas!!!! Keep up the GREAT work on your pieces!!!!

  3. The piece is lovely. I think the combination of white and gray is so timeless. I use to have problems with my hands also and tried everything over the counter and from the doctor. Turns out it was stress. Once I changed a few things in my life, my hands healed up.
